For the study, experts looked at numerous middle schools to find out why some performed well and others didn't. The study also highlights effective practices and strategies that worked.
- The 6th Annual AP Report to the Nation. CollegeBoard (February 2010). This new study concludes that disadvantaged and minority students are showing progress and making significant gains in AP classes and are also performing well on the tests.
- Mind the (Other) Gap: The Growing Excellence Gap in K–12 Education. Center for Evaluation and Education Policy (February 2010). A new study says the achievement gap between students with different racial and socioeconomic background continues to widen despite improvements in K–12 education.
- Head Start Impact Study and Follow Up. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2010). The Head Start program received mixed reviews in this new study. According to the study, Head Start proves effective for giving kids a strong start in the early grades, with Head Start children outperforming their peers who were not in the program, but the effects were shown to lessen over time.
