- Extra-large letter spacing improves reading in dyslexia. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. A study conducted in Italy and France showed that increasing letter spacing significantly helps students with dyslexia improve their academic learning. This allows the students to read faster which helps ease frustration and improves the pace at which they learn, the study found.
- The Economic Impact of Communities in Schools. Economic Modeling Specialists, Inc., on behalf of Communities in Schools. This study looks at the return on investment of Communities in Schools, a dropout prevention program that is in place at nearly 3,000 schools nationwide. This study, which looks at 113 schools, determined there is an $11.60 dollar return on every dollar spent on the program. The report also concludes that those youth who finish high school will be beneficial to their community and support it for an average of 44 years.
- What Teacher Preparation Programs Teach About K-12 Assessment: A Review. National Council for Teacher Quality. According to this report, only 3 percent of teacher-training programs are up to par when it comes to preparing educators to properly assess students. The study looked at whether teachers were adequately prepared in assessment literacy, analytical skills, and instructional decision making and found that most programs did not prepare teachers in all these categories.
