      • <LINK URL="http://www.homelesschildrenamerica.org/report.php">America's Youngest Outcasts: State Report Card on Child Homelessness</LINK>. National Center on Family Homelessness (March 2009).This report finds that 1 in 50 U.S. children are homeless.       • <LINK URL="http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/123/3/e376">"Trends in Blood Lead Levels and Blood Lead Testing Among US Children Aged 1 to 5 Years, 1988–2004."</LINK>Pediatrics (March 2009).This article concludes that only 1.4 percent of young children have elevated levels of lead in their blood. This is down from almost 9 percent in 1988.

U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences (March 2009).This study finds that federally funded mentoring programs have very little academic or behavioral impact on those who participate in them.
