As ASCD continues moving into the Information Age, the Association is expanding its electronic services to offer members the most advanced technological benefits available. These services include ready access to online products and information, electronic-only publications, and expanded Web services that will enable members to find the resources they need around the clock. Here's a brief look at what's already available and what's in store in the coming months.
Online Library
- Educational Leadership—ASCD's full-color, flagship magazine is now available in an electronic format. In addition to current and recent issues, members can consult an eight-year inventory of back issues. Trying to locate a recent article you read but can't quite place? Need to double-check a source or reference? You'll find it all and more right here.
- Education Update—The official ASCD newsletter, featuring articles on issues and trends in education, is now available online. Visitors can review current issues or consult previous ones as far back as 1996.
- Curriculum Update—ASCD's quarterly newsletter exploring single topics in depth is also available online. As with Education Update, current editions are available for review along with four years of back issues.
- Member Books—Regular, comprehensive, or premium members receive complimentary ASCD books with their membership. These publications are also available electronically for member access and use. As they are published, they'll be made available here for your reference and information.
- Language of Learning—Heard a term or buzzword lately that you didn't know? ASCD's handy glossary of more than 200 terms used in K–12 education across the United States is available here to help you keep up-to-date. Simply enter the words of your choice and click "Search" for a ready definition and explanation.
- ASCD Education Bulletin—This biweekly electronic newsletter brings the most current education news items right to your computer, along with online resources in the "Web Wonders" column. It also includes spotlights on ASCD products and conferences.
Professional Development Online
Many educators find themselves in a familiar bind when it comes to continuing education: they desperately need new information to stay current in their fields, but like so many other professionals in today's fast-paced society, they find that they lack the time required to take and complete most courses. Daily schedules, professional obligations, and family commitments leave very little time for quality instruction.

Best of all, these expanded capabilities will be available 24 hours a day.
To access the Online Store, go to http://www.ascd.org. If you have not yet received your password for the Online Store and Conference areas, please click the "Get Your Password" button at the bottom of the page. ASCD Curriculum Handbook Web Site
Course planners and school administrators looking for the latest information on curriculum planning now have an advanced tool to help them. The Curriculum Handbook, ASCD's premier product for tracking trends and resources in K–12 curriculum, went online in November 1999. The site contains all 12 chapters of the Curriculum Handbook and also includes supplemental updates from ASCD's Curriculum*Technology Quarterly newsletters. Subscribers accessing the Curriculum Handbook Web site can check current chapters for the latest information or research past chapters through the site's archive. A demo site is available for nonsubscribers at http://www.ascd.org/handbook/demo/demo.html.
Electronic Topic Packs
Selected topics from ASCD's popular line of information booklets are now available in electronic form for purchase. Featuring articles gleaned from such ASCD publications as Educational Leadership magazine; Education Update, Curriculum Update, and Curriculum*Technology Quarterly newsletters; as well as the Journal of Curriculum and Supervision and ASCD books, the Topic Packs offer a mountain of information at an affordable price. Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) resources and links to helpful Internet sites are also included. As an added bonus, the Electronic Topic Packs offer links connecting readers to footnotes and the ASCD Web site. To purchase Electronic Topic Packs, visit ASCD's Online Store.
What's What in Education
This fall, ASCD began a partnership with the Brown Publishing Network to provide excerpts from Brown's What's What in Education newsletter on ASCD's Web site. Published quarterly along with a year-end summary, What's What provides valuable, timely information about education trends in the news. ASCD members can access What's What in Education by clicking on the "Members Only" section at http://www.ascd.org.
Coming in 2001 . . . Journal of Curriculum and Supervision Web Site
The Journal of Curriculum and Supervision, ASCD's refereed scholarly journal, will have a brand-new Web site unveiled in early 2001. Published four times a year, the Journal reflectively examines, informs, and debates curriculum and supervision policies and related policy issues as they pertain to teaching, learning, and leadership. Subscribers will have access to the latest issues and current articles, as well as an archive of previous issues catalogued for easy referral.
