All my life through, the new sights of Nature made me rejoice like a child.—Marie Curie
Ina Clark shields the Monarch she raised from an egg in Ilene Levine's 4th grade class at Roosevelt Public School in Princeton, New Jersey. As the students nurtured the butterflies, they wrote descriptions of them, drew them, and eventually produced a presentation on their life cycle. The young scientists also conducted experiments with the Monarch caterpillars by creating small mazes and observing how long it took them to find milkweed. Levine writes, "The most wonderful part of the experience for me was watching the children glow with delight, pride, and gentleness when meeting their newly metamorphosed friends."
