      Third grade students from Beasley Elementary School in Mesquite, Texas, gaze in wonder at sea creatures in the Dallas World Aquarium. Natural sunlight illuminates the ocean life, which the young learners studied as part of their unit about ecosystems.
      Photographer Ian Halperin of the Mesquite Independent School District won the first place color photography award in the 1998 ASCD Photo Contest for capturing this vivid image of experiential learning.
