ASCD is now accepting proposals for sessions at next year's Annual Conference, which will be held March 19–22, 1994, in Chicago, Ill. The Conference theme, "Emerging Images of Learning: World Perspectives for the New Millennium," will include six strands. Those strands and examples of questions that sessions might address are:
Mosaic Society. What kinds of learning experiences can engage diverse students in meaningful ways? What techniques and tools are needed to teach diverse students? How will teachers be recruited and prepared to meet this challenge?
Learning Beyond the Classroom Walls. How can various environments and partnerships support learning? What implications for curriculum arise when learning takes place in atypical venues? How can lifelong learning be fostered?
Quality of Life and Learning. What is the relationship between personal wellness and professional effectiveness? What are the essential components of a healthy work environment? How can education meet its ultimate goal of improving the quality of life?
Values and Beliefs. What role do culture, values, traditions, and belief systems play in teaching and learning? How do shifts in society's values influence education? Are value-free teaching and learning possible in the cognitive domain?
What's Worth Knowing. Who decides what is to be learned? How do we determine what is worth learning? What role should culture play in determining what learning is valued? What must everybody learn, and why?
Leadership. How are leaders developed? What is the leader's new role? What impact does leadership have on governance, policymaking, and the economy?
