ASCD is now accepting proposals for sessions at next year's Annual Conference, which will be held March 6-9, 1999, in San Francisco, California. The conference theme, "Building Dynamic Relationships," will include four strands. Those strands and examples of questions that sessions might address are
Relationships. How can we support the collective efforts of the many different entities that must interact to provide high-quality education? How can we nurture the relationships among students, teachers, administrators, and parents? Among schools, businesses, communities, governmental agencies, and universities?
Instructional Leadership. How can we live out the belief that leadership is a skill shared by all participants in educational systems? How can teachers, administrators, politicians, parents, and students make unique contributions to the educational direction within their community?
Design of the Teaching/Learning Environment. In what ways can a positive learning environment be critical to the educational process? How can we incorporate best practices into the curriculum? How can we find solutions to classroom management challenges and violence in the school and community?
Assessment/Achievement/Accountability. What are effective strategies for measuring student and school achievement? How can alternative assessments meet the needs of diverse learners? What innovations are increasing student achievement? How can technology improve achievement and assessment?
