The 2000–01 ASCD Review Council recently presented a report to the Executive Council and Board of Directors that examined ASCD's progress in influencing education policy over the past 10 years and presented recommendations for future work. The Review Council ensures that the Association's purposes are reflected in its policies, practices, and procedures.
The report recommends, among other things, that ASCD should distribute the Council's report to ASCD governing leaders; that the ASCD Board of Directors, Executive Council, and staff should consider the recommendations in the report, take appropriate actions, and report these actions to the Board of Directors in 2002; that ASCD should use the results of the 2001 issues process as a part of a new process for setting the influence agenda; and that ASCD should recommend that the Review Council conduct a 10-year follow-up study on the topic of influence by 201011. The recommendations were subsequently adopted by the Board of Directors.
The members of the Review Council who wrote the report are Arthur Steller (chair), Marge Chow, Corrine Hill, Raymond McNulty, and Robert Watson.
