The 1999–2000 ASCD Review Council recently presented a report to the Executive Council and Board of Directors that examines the relationship among ASCD programs, products, services, and marketing. The Review Council ensures that ASCD's purposes are reflected in the Association's policies, practices, and procedures.
The report recommends, among other things, that ASCD should keep marketing expenses within 15–25 percent of total operating costs; that ASCD should inform the Board of Directors and members at least annually about the relationship between marketing and services to members; that the Executive Council should oversee the redesign of the ASCD-affiliate relationship; and that the Executive Council should study automatic dual ASCD and affiliate membership and report the findings to the Board of Directors. The recommendations were subsequently adopted by the Board of Directors.
The members of the Review Council who wrote the report are Arthur Steller, who was the chair, Marge Chow, Quincy Harrigan, Corrine Hill, Nancy Oelklaus, and Sandra Wegner.
