"Remember where you started—in a room, in front of children and their dreams."—Kay Toliver
Even though he'd only completed the 3rd grade, Kay Toliver's father always told her that "education is the key to a better life." The charismatic East Harlem teacher, especially known for the award-winning television show and video "Good Morning Miss Toliver," livened the crowd during her Saturday morning opening session at the 2006 Conference on Teaching and Learning.
Toliver broke down her teaching philosophy into seven gospels: caring, connection, communication, compassion, courage, conviction, and commitment. Armed with these core beliefs, Toliver proclaimed, "I truly believe that all kids can, must, and will achieve at high levels when taught by teachers who are powerful."
