      ALEXANDRIA, VA—ASCD is saddened to announce the passing of faculty member and author Debra Pickering.
      Pickering, as Vice President of Field Services for the Marzano Research Laboratory, consulted with schools and districts nationally and internationally.
      She co-authored influential educational books and manuals with Robert Marzano, including Dimensions of Learning: Classroom Instruction That WorksClassroom Management That Works, and Building Academic Vocabulary. As a consultant, Pickering combined her knowledge of educational theory with three decades of experience. Throughout her career, she worked to help educators by developing resources for curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
      "Debra provided support for countless teachers and school and district leaders throughout her career. I know that her significant contributions will continue to resonate with educators in the years and decades to come," ASCD Publisher Stefani Roth said. "We deeply mourn this loss and we extend our deepest sympathies to her friends and family."
