ALEXANDRIA, VA—ASCD Statement on Enactment of the American Rescue Plan Act by Ranjit Sidhu, ASCD CEO & Executive Director.

"The 2020-21 school year has been one of historic educational, social, and economic challenges. Educators have worked tirelessly and creatively to help their students succeed during this difficult time.

ASCD and our members greatly appreciate the extraordinary resources for K-12 education provided by the American Rescue Plan, and we applaud its enactment. The $129 billion devoted to elementary and secondary schools will greatly assist the ongoing efforts of educational leaders to help students and staff return safely to classrooms as soon as possible.

The amount of funding for K-12 schools in this bill is unprecedented, but it is commensurate with the scope and scale of what this national public health emergency requires. Most importantly, educators can, and will, use this funding to support the immediate and long-term academic and social-emotional needs of their students, which is vital to their successful post-pandemic recovery."
