ARLINGTON, VA—As it enters its 79th year of serving educators and education leaders both nationally and internationally, ASCD is also welcoming two new members to its Board of Directors: Dr. Sarena Shivers and Dr. Kim Wallace.
"Dr. Shivers and Dr. Wallace both bring decades of experience with the unique needs of educators in public school systems to our Board of Directors; they are exceptionally well-positioned to represent the perspectives and experiences of the educators we serve," said ASCD Interim CEO and Executive Director Sandy Husk.
Shivers is the Deputy Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators and has served as a public school educator for 30 years. Her professional accomplishments include the creation of transformational initiatives focused on adolescent literacy, writing, mathematics, STEM, school leadership, instructional technology, and secondary learning and instruction. Wallace works at the University of California, Berkeley School of Education overseeing a statewide grant that provides coaching and professional learning to K–12 administrators. She also runs her own educational consultancy company, Process Makes Perfect, specializing in real-world solutions for educators. She consults, writes, and presents nationally and internationally on the topics of authentic leadership, systems thinking, and emerging trends in education. She holds a bachelor's degree in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara; a master's degree in education and teaching credentials from the University of California, Los Angeles; and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of California, Davis.
ASCD Board President Avis Williams said: "I am so pleased to welcome Dr. Shivers and Dr. Wallace to the Board, and I look forward to working with them to ensure that every educator has the supports and resources they need for their students to flourish."
