About

Andrea Trudeau (@Andrea_Trudeau), Ph.D., NBCT, and AASL's 2020 Frances Henne Award winner, is a self-proclaimed no-"shh" librarian with 26 years of experience in education. She has cultivated an active learning commons in her public middle school, emphasizing community, creativity, critical thinking, and fun. As an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, she helps train future librarians, extending her passion for the field. After winning a Fulbright-Hays grant, she spent nearly six weeks in Tanzania and Kenya teaching high school students. Years later, she continues to promote girls’ education in this region by serving as a board member of Tanzania Development Support and supporting the Jane Adeny Memorial School. She also is a co-founder of a non-profit organization, Librarians Building Libraries, where she works to support librarians around the world. Her research interests focus on the effects of cinematic virtual reality on adolescent empathy. Regardless of where Andrea is teaching or learning, she believes the library is the heart of the school and strives to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Learn more at www.noshhlibrarian.com.
