Valerie Doyle Collins (secondary author) is president of VL Collins Consulting, Inc., an organization focused on promoting and advancing liter-acy and literacy leadership. As a literacy consultant, she works with school districts throughout the United States and abroad. She spends much of her time providing professional development services while serving as a coach, mentor, and change catalyst for districts and schools targeting literacy learning for all students, especially the older struggling reader. Valerie is also a contributing author and consultant for the Literacy First Process, a comprehensive, research-based reading reform process designed for pre-K-12.
