The day began like any other: dealing with an unexpected crisis. The school district had just announced a slash in the budget for custodial supplies. How were we going to keep the building clean? I was meeting in my office with the bookkeeper, the head custodian, and teacher leaders to figure out how we could trim budgets. During this meeting, I thought I recognized the voice of an 8th grade student speaking to the secretary out in the main office.
"Mrs. Rosengren, I would like to schedule a meeting with Dr. Tyson. How do I do that?" When an 8th grader wants to schedule a meeting with his principal, I am consumed with curiosity. I yelled out from my office, "Mrs. Rosengren, is that Will I hear? I can meet with him right now."
