Call For 2000 Annual Conference Proposals

ASCD is now accepting proposals for sessions at the 2000 Annual Conference, "Celebrating Education: Leading the Way in the New Millennium," to be held March 25–27, in New Orleans. The five major strands for the 2000 conference are Standards—Assessment/Achievement/Accountability; Improvement of Teaching and Learning; Designing Tomorrow's Classrooms; Emerging Trends Affecting Education in a Global Society; and Leadership in the 21st Century. The postmark deadline for receiving the proposals is May 31, 1999. Presenter proposal forms are available through the ASCD Service Center and on the ASCD Web (http://www.ascd.org).

FamilyEducation Network (FEN)

ASCD recently formed an alliance with FamilyEducation Network (FEN) to offer our resources for enhancing teaching and learning to educators and to expand our reach to parents—the child's first teacher. FEN is linked to more than 4,000 schools in more than 600 school districts throughout the United States.
FEN is an Internet-based network of families, schools, and communities dedicated to helping parents prepare their children to learn (http://familyeducation.com/home/). The FEN core site offers parents 8,000 pages of online information—from toddler concerns to college financing.
FEN is currently working to create a "Just for Schools" area, which will be geared toward school personnel who use FEN services. For more information, contact the ASCD Service Center.

Signature Schools

For more than 50 years, ASCD has worked closely with successful schools and has learned about their proven strategies, their enhanced capacities for change, and their excellence in professional development. Now ASCD is able to help share their successes with other schools through a new program called Signature Schools.
  • A professional development framework that supports site-specific, job-embedded learning for teachers and leaders throughout the school;
  • Networking structures that facilitate conversation with other schools;
  • Educational resources that provide all staff members with a common core knowledge of teaching and learning; and
  • Leadership support to help focus school improvement efforts and affirm the school's commitment to teaching and learning.
