ASCD Board Members Recognized Nationally for Educational Leadership

    ASCD Board of Directors Vice President Avis Williams and Board member Noris Price have both recently been honored by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).

      ALEXANDRIA, VA—ASCD is celebrating two members of its Board of Directors who were recognized nationally for their achievements in educational leadership. Board Vice President Avis Williams and Board member Noris Price have both recently been honored by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).
      Williams, who serves as superintendent of Selma City Schools in Selma, Alabama, is one of two finalists for the AASA's Women in School Leadership Award. This annual award will be announced in February 2022 and recognizes exemplary female leaders in education. Candidates are nominated by their peers across the country and finalists are selected by a panel of distinguished education leaders.
      Williams was also one of 19 superintendents nationwide to be named as a 2021 Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). This annual award celebrates district leaders who demonstrate dynamic, fast-paced leadership grounded in strong two-way communication and outreach. Awardees will be recognized at the annual NSPRA Conference in July 2022.
      Price, superintendent of Baldwin County Schools in Georgia, has been named as the 2022 Georgia Superintendent of the Year by the Georgia School Superintendents Association. Price was selected from an initial group of 24 exceptional superintendents from across the State of Georgia. Candidates are nominated by their boards of education, and winners are selected by a committee of peer superintendents.
      Price is also one of four finalists for AASA's National Superintendent of the Year Award that will also be announced In February. She was selected as a national finalist from the pool of all State Superintendents of the Year from across the country.
