Our applications for Affinity Group volunteer or Community Leader cohorts are closed for now.

There are many ways to contribute your time as a volunteer! Opportunities include:

  •  Affinity Group volunteers who support our five affinity groups in Connect (ISTE+ASCD), our online community.

  •  Community Leaders who collaborate to provide professional development opportunities for our community of educators.

  •  Event volunteers who lend their time to help make our annual events exceptional.

Affinity Group Volunteers

Empower and connect with fellow educators by becoming an affinity group volunteer for our online affinity group! Share your passion for education and help foster a vibrant online community by directing conversations and helping answer questions. Affinity Group volunteers typically contribute 1 hour per month as a volunteer.

Affinity Group volunteers…

  • Keep the conversation going: Respond to discussion prompts, questions, and member posts to encourage collaboration and build a supportive network.

  • Champion diversity and inclusion: Share your expertise and insights on leading and learning with others who share your identity. This could include:

    • Poll questions: Spark discussions with thought-provoking questions.

    • Elevating best practice: Encourage members to share strategies for thriving as an education professional and supporting student learning.

    • Resource sharing: Uncover and share valuable articles, websites, or educational tools.

Together, we can create a thriving online space for educators to learn, share, and support each other!

Community Leaders

Serving as an ISTE+ASCD Community Leader is a great way to volunteer with other passionate educators, share your expertise, and give back to the education field.

Whether you’re excited about pedagogy, digital citizenship, AI, curriculum, or other topics, this is your chance to make a difference.

Community Leaders typically contribute 1-5 hours per month as a volunteer.

  • Answer questions and give advice in Connect, ISTE and ASCD’s online professional learning network.

  • Support the ASCD or ISTE conferences by reviewing proposals, selecting must-see sessions for content areas, and helping to coordinate events like playgrounds.

  • Write ASCD and ISTE books, author ISTE U courses or write for the ASCD or ISTE blogs or EdSurge. Past volunteers have even gone on to serve on the ISTE+ASCD Board of Directors.

Community Leaders get...

  • Opportunities to develop valuable professional skills through unique volunteer activities.

  • Four ASCD or ISTE ebooks per year, as well as ISTE swag.

  • Exclusive access to a private Community Leader and ISTE+ASCD Slack workspace.

  • An exclusive recognition event at the ISTELive and ASCD annual conferences, including a service recognition certificate.

  • Inclusion in our volunteer directory on iste.org (optional).

  • NEW - Volunteers who contribute at least 100 hours throughout the program year will receive a PD voucher to redeem a selection of ISTE+ASCD opportunities!

Because of the help of people like you, educators pick ISTE+ASCD for their peer-to-peer PD and to build connections around the globe.

Community Leaders are the lifeblood of our community, and there are opportunities to contribute as much or as little as you’d like.

Most volunteers contribute one to five hours per month.

Event Volunteers

Your time and talents help make our annual events a huge success! Volunteering at our 2025 co-located ASCD and ISTE annual conferences can help you…

  • Feel connected. Become part of a special community that drives the success of the conference.

  • Learn new skills. Develop new skill sets you can bring back to your organization or use to enhance your resume.

  • Meet new friends and colleagues. Volunteers make connections with other educators that reach beyond their volunteer shifts and the conference.

Some volunteer roles are eligible to receive a refund of your conference registration fee upon completion of your volunteer service.

Let us know you’d like to volunteer when you register for the 2025 annual conference, or submit your interest via the volunteer application on this page and we will reach out with more information when registration begins.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers!

"Volunteering has helped me network with other like-minded professionals. I look forward to our meetings and interactions because I am always inspired by my colleagues from across the nation."
