Building Positive Body Image

Many teenage girls (and some boys) are painfully insecure about their bodies. Helping them develop a positive body image can go a long way toward boosting their overall happiness and confidence. "Confident Me: Video Training for Teachers" is a series of six training videos (connected to lesson plans) that help teachers understand teen body-image issues and prepare teachers to talk sensitively about these issues with students. The videos guide teachers in implementing accompanying lessons and activities to help teens grow in "body confidence." Part of the Dove Self-Esteem Project, the videos are available.

EL’s experienced team of writers and editors produces Educational Leadership magazine, an award-winning publication that reaches hundreds of thousands of K-12 educators and leaders each year. Our work directly supports the mission of ASCD: To empower educators to achieve excellence in learning, teaching, and leading so that every child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
